Proposal

It is proposed to gather, from across the globe, 25 key practitioners engaged in evangelism among the Sikhs for a four-day consultation in Edmonton, Alberta on October 22 - 25, 2019. This gathering may be followed by similar regional gatherings.

Objectives

• Prayer: to call the church to a sustained a movement of prayer for reaching the Sikhs with the Gospel.
• Research: to gather information that will advance the understanding of the task of calling the Sikhs to faith in Jesus Christ, and support those engaged in the task with relevant and up-to-date information.
• Equipping: to equip the church with the vision, training and resources needed evangelize the Sikhs.
• Mobilization: to mobilize the church – denominations, local churches, mission agencies, education and training organizations, etc. – to sensitively and effectively evangelize the Sikhs, especially in the diaspora communities across the world.

Outcomes / Impact

Beginning at the Edmonton consultation and continuing through regional gatherings, a proposed facilitation team will coordinate efforts in Sikh evangelism towards the following outcomes:

• Networking: The global community of practitioners of Sikh evangelism would be networked together for mutual support and encouragement, and for strategic and optimal application of human and material resources for the task. As and when and where deemed necessary, the 2019 consultation will be followed by similar regional gatherings.
• Innovation: The global church will be challenged – through prayer, research, equipping and mobilization – to launch a wide variety of initiatives – experimental, pilot, & proven -- designed to further the task of reaching the Sikhs for Christ.
• Church-planting: Local churches, denominations, church-planting networks, mission agencies, etc., will be envisioned, equipped and mobilized to plant churches among the Sikhs in the diaspora communities around the world.
• Evangelism: Churches and Christians will be called, equipped and mobilized to prayerful, Spirit-led evangelism amongst the Sikhs.

Action Points

1. Collate a list of approximately 45-50 practitioners across the globe.
Develop list of mission agencies, denominations, churches with known involvement with Sikh evangelism. List to be used, among other purposes, to invite participation, encourage prayer, inform of partnership opportunities for resource development, equipping, etc.
2. Begin circulating a prayer circular – to a mailing list of interested people –- in preparation and lead up to the 2019 consultation.
